2012: End Game
By Stone Bryson
December 21, 2012. The day when everything
changes.
Or so claim many people in the metaphysical community, anyhow. See, on
that date the ancient Mayan calendar comes to a grinding halt. According
to the interpretations of the legend by many learned individuals, when
that date comes the world is at end. That’s right - apocalyptic,
fire-and-brimstone end.
Of course, there is no evidence that the end of the Mayan calendar means
such a cataclysmic event is around the corner. In all of the Mayan
‘literature,’ there is no mention of the ‘world’ ending; with
that noted, it doesn’t mean that the Mayans had it wrong. Their
calendar, based on 5,125.36 year cycles, does suggest that some
sort of dramatic event is approaching. What that event is we simply do
not know, although it is doubtful that a true ‘end-of-the-world’ is one
of the possibilities.
The Mayans are not the only ones who saw in advance that the time in
which we live would be monumental; the ancient Babylonian, Egyptian,
Norse, Celtic, Chinese, Indian, Maori, and Hopi cultures all have
prophetic writings that (while not exactly marking the date 12/21/2012)
place events of global change inside the next 7 years. Furthermore, the
(oft-mislabeled) ‘new-agers’ point to the date as the beginning of the
“age of Aquarius” when a new dawn for life-as-we-know-it is supposed to
arise.
Even the biblical book of Revelations - if taken metaphorical and
not literally - points the proverbial finger at this time frame as a
dramatic moment of change. Beyond that, Christian mystics of yore were
compelled to scribe prophecies that have bumped into the 2012 curiosity.
One of the more prophetic of these mystics - and due recent events one
of the most discussed - is St. Malachy. According to legend, the 12th
century Cardinal had a disturbing vision while visiting Rome in 1139,
where he received cryptic messages that were to predict the next 112
popes.
Here is where it gets interesting. The selection of Joseph Ratzinger as
John Paul II successor - becoming Benedict XVI - is #111; every
prediction up through Benedict has been accurate. That means there is
only one pope left on Malachy’s list, leading many to believe that after
that pope the church itself will meet its demise. Considering Benedict’s
age, Malachy’s prophecies bring us very close to 2012.
If you look at the whole picture, it does appear that something big -
and I mean very big - is coming in or around 2012. Usually people -
being fatalistic by nature - automatically assume the ‘end-of-the-something’
scenario because we are melodramatic creatures obsessed with our own
continuality. Truthfully, I remain unconvinced that any sort of end
is coming up upon us.
With that noted, I do believe that there is a change
coming, something within the metaphysical-fabric concerning 2012 that
deserves attention. Think about the seers, past and present. It is
almost as if they have been running into some sort of psychic wall that
has prevented clear knowledge of what is to happen after 2012. Rather
than seeing a wall preventing their visions past a certain time, they
see nothingness; it is easy to imagine why they would interpret that as
‘the end.’
While it is probably not an end, the aforementioned possibility of a
psychic wall would certainly halt their predictions. Think about it - if
you are walking along a path and you come across a wall blocking that
path, if stand close enough to that wall it would really feel like ‘the
end.’ If you are within inches of it, it does not feel like it is a
climbable or a breakable wall - it just feels like ‘the end’ of the
path, even though there may be a continuation of the path on the other
side of said-wall.
The same could be said about the ancient seers and prophets of the
various cultures mentioned above; if they were having all of these
visionary predictions and then the visions stopped at a certain time
(with them essentially running into that psychic wall), they would
assume an end to the path. If would then make sense that they would
translate that as the end of existence, hence all of the doomsday
concern.
Even the ‘modern’ seers have run into that wall. It would certainly
explain why Malachy did not see anything beyond 112 popes. Also, if you
take a look at the (already convoluted) predictions of the 16th century
seer Nostradamus, you’ll notice that those which stretch beyond 2012
become even more incomprehensible. Furthermore, the renowned 20th
century visionary Edgar Caycee had difficulties seeing into the 2010’s.
Even the prophets and remote-viewers of today will admit (when they are
being honest) that seeing anything beyond 2012 is - at best - a crap
shoot.
So what is so special about 2012? I do not know, but I have become
convinced that there IS a psychic wall in place and that said-wall is
going to collapse on 12/21/2012. What could bring down that wall?
Perhaps the death of a devout person of faith. Or maybe it is the birth
of a person who will lead us to wonderful (or terrible) things.
It is also possibility that a horrific natural event (like the eruption
of Yellowstone or the arrival of an asteroid) is what blows a hole right
through the wall. It could even be that the very fabric of the ethereal
world will be ripped open and a new spiritual awareness will engulf us.
Or maybe it will be something as insignificant as the publication of
book - a book that ends up opening the doors to new mental vistas never
imagined by our species.
Whatever 12/21/2012 brings (it will either be painfully obvious or so
minor that it sneaks past our initial attention), I am confident that in
the long run it will be utterly profound - the kind of thing that
eventually changes the very calculation of time. Yes, I am
convinced that something is going to happen on that fateful day to turn
the world upside down, both in ways both exciting and terrifying.
I hope and pray to Deity I am here to see it..
