In This House

By Stone Bryson

the many people in this house were fighting me one night.
their arguments were crystal clear,
“which kind of girl is right?”

the artist perched behind my eyes said, “beauty unsurpassed...
needs to hold the attention of all
with just a move or glance.”

the romantic dwelling in my soul said, “look for honesty...
the trust you give will be deserved
and then you will receive.”

the wanderer who moves my feet said, “seek, but do not find...
the memories of those you’ll hold
will carry you though time.”

the deviant that rules my skin said, “erotica’s a must...
a woman who will celebrate
a driving, focused lust.”

the student thirsting in my mind said, “search for an intellect...
designed to make you think beyond
the barriers you’ve set.”

but the ghost that’s living in my heart said, “She's the one for you...
the love you have for Her is real”
...the argument was through.
