I Tried
By Stone Bryson
I picked up the
phone...
at least a hundred times,
to tell you all about the things
that are, running through my mind.
I didn't dial your number,
the courage wasn't there,
surrounded by the fear of heartbreak
that always lingers near.
But I tried...
to frame the words so right.
I tried...
from darkness to the light.
Of all the women I have loved
you are… foremost in my mind.
God and heaven help me -
I tried.
I got into my car...
to take a little drive,
to corner you and let you know
your chariot's arrived.
I can feel the things you need,
they're the things I long for too,
but all the pieces of my life
kept me away from you.
But I tried...
to come by and let you know.
I tried...
to let me feelings show.
But if I broke your heart I know
it would… tear me up inside.
God and heaven help me -
I tried.
