Exquisite Pain

By Suzanne B. Jacobson

Exquisite pain

On the border of pleasure

Where draw the line?

With what do we measure?

Some lean to right

Still others to fight

Some find the truth in

A moment’s delight.

In God may be refuge

For those who have faith

But darkness abides

In some kinds of Grace.

The shadows may fall

Or may dance on the wall

From beyond the thin veil

Comes a Dark Lover’s call.

I’ll tell you a Secret

You’ve little to fear

You whispered sweet somethings

In my gentle ear.

There’s pain in the loving

A burn to the touch

The tongue is a Treasure

I won’t hurt you… much.

Oh, Darling, you’ve chosen

Another to wed

Strange how you dream

That it’s me in your bed.

Oh, come here, my Darling

Let’s walk in the park

I’ll make you take me

Before it’s still dark.

And then in the shadows

Like never before

I’ll take you down

‘Til you’re screaming for more.

And then in the morning

You’ll wake in the pain

Of knowing sweet somethings

Are nothing to gain.

My love is your shadow

Your tears are my rain

I promise you, Darling

My exquisite pain.
