Thorns Of The Heart

By Contessa

You held my heart as you did your work

Watching it as it bled

Then tucked it gently back in my chest

And left me there for dead

You acted so dispassionately

Your hands were icy cold

When you wrapped it neatly in thorny vines

Then relinquished your final hold

Never caring what damage you did

Or how I hurt inside

You had merely come to play and take a careless ride

But you will remember on moonless nights

When I come again to you

To haunt your dreams and tear your sleep

My visions to renew

I will love you all night long

And when the dawn is new

I will leave you bleeding and raw

On your bed of endless crave

Night after night I will come to play

I will make you lust and rave

For never will you have your fill

Of the thorns of my heart

And ever will you desire and dread

The wanton of the dark
