T

By Jodi Bergantz

There was a scent on the breeze that eve

An essence familiar and distant at once

It softly stirred her soul and her mind

Like red wine

Her eyes grew heavy as she reminisced

A warm draft caressed her body as she lay

She wondered if dreams would be kind

This time

She whispered hopes and wishes

She longed for a night with less pain

She hoped he had heard the call of his name.

Sleep came.

He arrived once more with the wind

His form grew whole and strong

Cool lips brushed against her skin

Again

He hummed the song that was theirs

Her lashes fluttered along with the melody

As she woke to sight of the man she knew

Midnight's blue

They embraced as they had before

When he was with her in the world

The moment seemed to last and last

Shadows cast

Oaths where made and love was sworn

Candles were lit and time ticked on

Dawn was coming and hearts would break

Awake
